This Sunday, we took two PAWS pups out on the Anasazi Trail, one of those Southern Utah hikes that never stops amazing us—red rock views, ancient petroglyphs, and wide open space for curious noses and happy paws.

Cider was the definition of gentle. Super docile, loving, and cautious in the sweetest way. She carefully assessed every edge and rock before deciding whether it was a good idea (and sometimes decided it absolutely was not). People say “sweet dog” all the time, but Cider truly lives up to it.

Lady Love, on the other hand, was the perfect yang to Cider’s yin. Adventurous, enthusiastic, and all‑in on everything we were doing. If we climbed, she climbed. If we explored, she was right there, tail wagging, ready for more.

Watching the two of them play together—and with the kids—was pure joy. These trail days are one of our favorite ways to help shelter dogs decompress, build confidence, and show just how wonderful they are outside a kennel.

If you’re ever thinking about adding a dog to your family, pups like Cider and Lady Love are waiting—and they have so much love to give. Go to PAWS to meet them!

Petroglyphs along the Anasazi Trail, reminding us that humans have been leaving messages behind for a very long time. Also… is that an alien? Asking for a friend.
