Gunlock Falls in Spring | Near St. George, Utah

Gunlock Falls near St George Utah flowing during spring runoff with visitors exploring red rock waterfalls

When Gunlock Falls near St. George, Utah starts flowing each spring, it quickly becomes one of the most exciting outdoor spots in Southern Utah.

After a good winter of snow and rain, water spills over the red sandstone cliffs at Gunlock Falls, creating a series of beautiful waterfalls that feel almost unexpected in the desert.

We visited one evening and were lucky enough to catch the sun setting behind the mountains.

It was one of those Southern Utah evenings where you can’t help but pause and take it all in.

As the light dropped lower, the landscape lit up in layers of warm color across the red cliffs and desert hillsides.

Gunlock Falls was buzzing with energy. Families, kids, friends, and plenty of dogs were all out enjoying the evening together, exploring the waterfalls and soaking up the beautiful spring weather.

People were exploring the rocks, swimming in the pools, and hopping across the waterfalls as laughter echoed through the canyon.

It was the kind of atmosphere that reminds you how special it is to live somewhere with easy access to places like this.

If you’re visiting while the falls are running, it’s definitely worth the short drive. Bring good shoes, be ready for some crowds, and take your time exploring the different waterfalls and viewpoints.

Evenings like this are just another reason we love calling Southern Utah home.
